With Gawler Place’s proximity to the River Torrens and in reference to the recent renovations of Rundle Mall, we explored the inherent kinetic energy in flowing water. To fully explore this concept, we commissioned an image series by local videographer and photographer, Johanis Lyons-Reid. Lyons-Reid looked specifically at how objects such as native trees, stones and grasses act on and are acted upon by the dramatic ebb and flow of water throughout the Adelaide Plains. These visual representations, which became the framework for the work, highlighted the various markers of directional energy either captured in motion or left as reminders of energy passed. Ripples looks specifically how these markers can be used as guides to direct the kinetic flow through the Gawler Place precinct, allowing users to be carried by a current, past or present.
